Sound & Groove Episode 36- "Transportation Tracks, Episode 3"

Toots & the Maytals produced an energetic, vibrant, simmering string of records in the late 60s, early 70s that stood in contrast to the more serious, mellow and laid back rasta reggae of other stars from Jamaica like Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Lee "Scratch" Perry or even Jimmy Cliff. Quite simply they knew how to produce some fun party records whether with their own material or creative spins on others' famous compositions. One of those solid covers is featured in this third and final August episode on "Transportation Tracks" so dig in and listen, mmmkay?

Everyone loves a good ol' driving song but how about songs about the roads? Whether it be about superhighways, autoroutes, expressways, boulevards or any another residential path, they all count. Herein lies a superb collection of themed songs on that subject to feast your ears upon. Whether it makes for good driving music or not is irrelevant- though score bonus points if it does! What matters is that these songs evoke thoughts and feelings of traveling, moving "'cross the highways and the biways" as the Hollies once sang. It's all part of this monthly themed podcast show entitled Sound & Groove. This here is episode 3 of 3 for the month of August!

And if you're new to this podcast: Every month there will be a theme that the selection of music is centred around. It will be jam packed with my analysis, synopses, breakdowns, anecdotes and other witticisms you might enjoy. And not to worry, each month will contain a different theme than the last. This is the first of a special episodes this month of August going by the theme of "Takin' it to the Streets: Transportation Tracks." All killer, no filler... other than when I talk and introduce the tunes and recap the ones before it. But aside from that? 100% juicy meat! Below I've also provided information and links relevant to the matters discussed in this particular edition of Sound & Groove.

Sound & Groove Episode 35- "Takin' it to the Streets: Transportation Tracks, Episode 2"

Alice Cooper were a pure show, a horror presentation not unlike a vaudeville act. But in early 1970s America, already scared off any menacing long-haired "freaks" by the Manson Family, their live concert act and behaviour was tantamount to treason and youth corruption. Of course the dust settled and once glam rock had come and gone, people realized the shock was merely a theatrical guise. By 1974, the band Alice Cooper was no more but the man, the myth, the legend would solider on. One of their early rockers makes its way as a "transportation track" featured in this week's episode of the Sound & Groove podcast.

Sound & Groove Episode 34- "Takin' it to the Streets: Transportation Tracks, Episode 1"

J.J. Cale straight out of Oklahoma with a guitar style and sound that resembled a snake crawling out of the swamps and through the grass at times, other times like a lazy ol' turtle walking along the beach. Either way, he was unique and as original as they came upon emerging in the early 70s from years as a noted sideman and studio performer to make his own records. Passing away at the age of 74 last week, one of his "transportation tracks" features in this week's episode of the Sound & Groove podcast.

Sound & Groove Announcement: Coming Attractions

After a busy July of vacationing and so forth, yours truly Evan Dowbiggin didn't get around to a July episode of Sound & Groove. Embarrassing, treasonous, suspect, lazy, call it what you like! But hey, I was enjoying my summer mmkay? July was a month without a new episode occurred for the first time since February 2012... when this podcast hadn't been established yet. But I have decided to make it up to y'all with three episodes in the same theme for August! I will be including songs going on the theme of "Taking it to the Streets: Transportation Tracks." Wonder what that's about? Weeelll, we're dealing with any songs that refer to roadway subjects like bridges, tunnels, roads, streets, highways of all sorts, traveling, avenues, lanes, you name it. Anywhere a car can go. Keep your eyes peeled as the first episode will drop next Monday, August 5. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some great transportation music to gab about thankyouverymuch.
